CHAPTER FIVE

Flowers everywhere. Eliza’s eyes grew wide as soon as she entered her apartment after returning from a brief trip to some boutiques. The normally bare living room was covered in roses on every surface. Her hand came up to her mouth in disbelief as she attempted to walk through them.

Catherine appeared at the other end of the room. “Oh, Ms. Eliza! Sorry, I didn’t know where to tell the delivery men to put them all.”

“Who on Earth are all these from?” Eliza asked as she fingered the velvety petals, completely in awe.

“Mr. Elliot. He said he tried to call yesterday, but you didn’t answer. He got dragged into an emergency meeting by his board when you were supposed to meet.” Her assistant explained.

Eliza felt a tiny seed of guilt bloom within her. She surveyed the flowers and figured that he had at least earned a second chance.

“Elliot?” She asked warmly when he picked up. “I just got home. I apologize for not returning your calls sooner. I went to meet with a friend and lost track of time.”

His relief was apparent. “Great. I thought you were furious with me. I had to go to a board meeting that night and I felt awful.”

“It’s alright,” she assured him, and found herself smiling as they spoke. “Would you like to reschedule?”

“Yes,” he said with regained composure. “Would you mind if we did a steakhouse? My friend works as the head chef and he’d love to tailor an entire menu for us.”

“Oh?” Her eyebrows perked up in interest as she leaned into her couch with a grin. “That sounds lovely.”

“Fantastic. Would you like to meet tonight?”

She looked at the clock. It was only one pm so there was plenty of time to get ready and

summon a stylist over to help her throw something together for a high-class restaurant outing. “Sounds wonderful, Elliot,” she said, and then in a playful voice added, “If you stand me up this time, not even bringing me a mountain will get you out of trouble.”

“Nothing would keep me from tonight,” he breathed and tingles ran through her body.

When they ended the phone call, she sighed.

“Is everything alright, Ms. Eliza?” Catherine asked her.

“Yes,” Eliza replied while tapping a finger on her chin, “It’s too good is the problem.”
